Day 28: Grandpa's Funeral & 4 Mile Run

My Grandpa Ramirez was buried this morning, but I know he was running next to me at Memorial Park this evening. He helped me run my first non-stop 4 miles.
We were on the road early today (5am) so our food schedule was definately off.

Breakfast: 1/2 almond butter sandwich, green tea. 4am and not time for any preparation.
2nd Breakfast!: Stopped at Whataburger at 7:30am along the way.

Whataburger: Egg/Potato Taquito

Served a BBQ meal after Grandpas funeral. Everyone stacked their bread all over my plate to make it look like I ate it all! Not so.
Almost forgot to mention the small slice of chocolate cake for dessert.

On some kind of DQ kick and stopped on the way home!! By now I just didn't care. Road trips do that!

Mine is the chocolate one of course.

Got home same day around 5:30pm. Desperately seeking a run.
Ran the 4 miles at the park and walked 2 miles. Feeling a bit better.

Dinner: Chicken and veggie soup from the can and a salad with tomato, 1/2 avacado, fetta cheese, olive oil, salt/pepper/oregano/basil/water.

Day 27: My Husband Cooked Dinner

Can't figure out how to allow people to post. It worked before and then I changed the settings. Will try again.
Given Dove chocolate at work. Refrained from stuffing my face, but did enjoy 3 of them!

Breakfast: Boiled egg, green tea, some bites of left over tuna w/mayo.
(thank goodness I'm just about out of the mayo!)
Lunch: tuna sandwich on whole grain round breads, 8 hazelnuts.
Snack: 1 whole carrot (large), plum, one bite of a ghost cookie.
Dinner: My hubby made salmon with spices, sweet potato and
                                                       some broccoli/greenbeans, water
                                                       Late: Some tea

Really missing going to Ballys and/or jogging at the park. Need to feel better though! Not a 100% yet.

Day 26 Losing Some Weight

I've lost 2 pounds, but who's counting. Seems my clothes is fitting better and I'm getting smaller, but the scale doesn't show it much. Ordered some new jeans online and hope they fit when I get them.

Breakfast: boiled egg, green tea, some apple slices
Snack: plum, 8 hazelnuts, water
Lunch: 6 inch chicken subway with peperjack cheese and veggies, water (no mayo)
Dinner: Feeling a bit under the weather so I ran to Krogers and got a can of corn chowder soup (not the healthiest. 1/2 sandwich of tuna with egg. water

Day 25: Little Time For Dinner & Ice-Cream

Meeting after work and barely made it home to tutor a math student. Grabbed subway on the way home!
Plus my throat hurt a bit so I figured a Dr. Pepper would make it feel better. Yeah, that is a good one, huh?

Ran almost the entire 3 miles at memorial park!
My leg and foot started going numb so I stopped.
My body tells me I need to stop, but my mind just keeps saying..come on, you can keep going!
Figured some ice-cream would sure make my sore throat feel better. So we got that right after the run. Good excuse! I've come the the conclusion that it is easier for me to keep eating poorly once I mess up.

Breakfast: boilded egg, green tea, plain greek yogurt with some frozen peach slices.
Snack: small gala apple
Lunch: pasta mixed with zuccini/squash/little chicken, side of broccoli and green beans, almond butter sandwich.
Snack: plum and later a sugar laced packaged hot chocolate from work!
Dinner: subway chicken sandwich with 2 bacon slices, pepperjack cheese, veggies, and yes...a DP!!
Ice Cream: soft ice-milk vanilla cone from burger king after the run.

Worst pic ever after my run, but GREAT ice-cream!!

Day 24 Little Hershey Candies

Are you ready for this? I'm eating a bite size Hershey candy as I type this! School is over, but I'm still at work. There are so many snacks here! Tomorrow I'm going to walk through the school and take a photo of all the horrible snacks that tempt me!

Breakfast: Scrambles Eggs with spinach, green tea
Snack: plum, 1/2 a carrot
Lunch: turkey meat with spices and onions, broccoli/green beans, almond butter sandwich, small bit of greek yogurt mixed with some raspberries.

Day 22 Tofu and a New Breakfast...Finally

Wonderful Day! Feeling GREAT! Did some weights at Ballys.

The pasta looks gross, but is okay.
I put the tofu in the pasta so I wouldn't
taste it too much. My hubby put it on
his salad. Also, add walnuts & rasins to the salad.
Dinner: Not sure I was ready for the "tofu thing" and I can't say I'm too excited about it.  The video  and pic shows the interesting food my husband was preparing when I arrived home.

Tried something new for breakfast. Attempted to make an egg omlette, but discoverd I can't. Hence, the scrambled eggs. Added in last nights ingredients (onions, red bell peppers, corn, spinach leaves). YUM! Little salmon on the side and a few slices of green apple.
Green tea of course.

Snack: 6 hazelnuts, my no sugar cocoa hot chocolate with vanilla soy milk.
Lunch on the run: Almond butter sandwich and a small orange.

Began training for my first 10K today. Ran/Walked 6.6 miles at Memorial Park. Used a great app called Cardio Trail to calculate distance, calories, pace and graphs your
stats for you. You can save your workout as well. LOVE IT.
Had a Strawberry Exteme
smoothie after I ran.
Had a smoothie after I ran.

Here is a great way to get that chocolate fix in a healthy way!
Acquired taste, but I love it. Use cocoa from baking aisle. Add
to Soymilk or vanilla soymilk. Add a few drops of vanilla extract and a
tiny pinch of salt if desired. Yum! No sugar and hardly any calories.

Day 20 Turkey Trot Coming Up!

2 for lunch and one at 5pm.
Still no groceries in the house!

Groceries and ready for new recipes!
Attempt to eat good food again!

Annoyed at my weight gain and horrible eating lately.
Soothed my irritation with a giant slice of pumpkin pie!!

Just signed up for the 10K Turkey Trot!
If Vince gets the okay, he will begin trainning with me next week or so. I plan to begin tomorrow. Had enough of feeling disgusting! When you fall off the horse you just gotta get back on. No time for a pity party! Can't wait to jog at the park tomorrow and cook some GREAT new meals!

Day 19: At The Hospital & Lived On McDonalds!

Spent the last 19 hours at the hospital with my husband. He is fine now. McDonalds was on the first floor and carried me through breakfast, lunch and dinner. Actually gained 3 pounds in one day!
The hashbrown tasted like pure grease, the eggs had a fake texture and didn't taste good. The pancakes reminded me of eating paper and by the time I ate the sausage and biscut I didn't feel well. Never touched the hot chocolate. Was 5am and I was starving at the time. Yuck!

Day 15 Ate Enough Bread for a Family of 4!

Went to a great little Italian restaurant for my birthday dinner. Ordered 2 main dishes for just me! Yes, you read that correctly. So hungry and couldn't decide between the lasagna and another sidedish meal. Ridiculous! Ended up only eating one of them and took the other home. Now I have to eat more pasta stuff tomorrow and maybe even the next day! Our meal also involved lots of bread. I blow up like a balloon when I eat breads and pastas! I'll take a pic of my leftovers tomorrow. Since I could barely breathe I decided against dessert.

Breakfast: 2 corn tortillas, boiled egg, spinach leaves, green tea
Lunch: chicken, tomatoes and green chilies on top, corn/broccoli
Snack: salmon patty, corn (okay...second lunch!)
Snack: plain Greek yogurt with frozen peaches and almonds
Birthday Dinner: Horrible pasta meal with mushrooms and to die for sauce. Enough bread for a family of 4!

Plan on cooking a couple new recipes later in the week.  : )

Day 14: Day of Kayaking and Junk Food

Had a blast kayaking down the Colorado River in Columbus (an hour west of Houston)!
Talk about a GREAT workout! Unfortunately, we packed several convenient unhealthy snacks to eat along the way.

Day 13 Subway Feast and B-Day Cake

Meetings on and off campus today and running around. Had to grab Subway. "5 Dollar Footlong!"
Subway for lunch and subway for dinner. Didn't make it home from the day until 10pm so ended up picking up McDonalds at 9:30 at night! What a day! I'm horrified!

Walked 3 miles at Memorial Park today. Thoughts of our Kayaking trip tomorrow.  : )
My birthday office celebration.  Had a slice of delicious carrot cake too!

Day 12 Craving A Burger Right Now

Noting too noteworthy about today. Guess that was because I've eaten well today!

Breakfast: corn tortilla with boiled egg (ran out of spinach), green tea, frozen peaches.
Snack: regular hot chocolate sugar and all, grapes
Lunch: Leftovers-Beef with pineapple salsa, small orange
Snack: small orange
Dinner: Again...beef with pineapple salsa.  (such variety today!)
Water with everything.

I'm feeling something bad later....starbucks brownie...whataburger...dr. pepper...

Day 11 Beef Pitas with Pineapple Salsa...FABULOSO!

Finally cooked some beef for a change! I highly recommend this dish!
(accidently called salsa "cilantro" in the video)

Having to say NO...Imagine 2 eight year old cutie pies offering you food that they made. How could I possibly say no? Second graders were doing a Matter experiment. They melted "solid" butter so it changed to a liquid. A liquid on TORTILLAS! I had to eat just one. Not worth it since the tortilla was cold. Food is just always around me!!

Cookies in my office! Bought cookies for teacher meetings! Will use them for the next month or so. Sure hope I can make it. Didn't eat any today.  : ) I was just complaining that everyone serves unhealthy snacks at their meetings & I just did that myself! Unbelieveable! It's cheaper..what can I say.
Didn't get to exercise today. Bummed! Really wanted to jog at the park today. Where does the time go!
Breakfast: corn tortilla, boilded egg, green tea
Snack: small orange
Lunch: leftovers: asparagus, salmon patty, almond butter sandwich (strange)
Snack: one tortilla with butter.
Dinner: Beef with pineapple salsa on 2 corn tortillas with plain yogurt topping. Grapes
Always water.

Attended kayaking training after work. Ready for some exercise on the river this weekend!

Never allow yourself to get hungry or this happens!
Fill up on good snacks.

Day 9 New Recipe on Video: Sweet Potatoes, Asparigus, and ICE-CREAM

Healthy day today, but have plans to ruin it with ice-cream later. Premeditated for sure.

Tried a new recipe and loved it!

So many to choose from!

Ice- cream does NOT get rid of headaches as I thought!
Ate a double chocolate browning sundae with hot fudge and
whipcream!

...and here it is

.

Day 6-7 Returning After Bad Attitude!

Lost Faith in the blog for a few days!
Eating more crumby foods since I began the blog!
Conclusion.... Get back on the horse and stop whining!
                      It happens to everyone.
Jump back on track and leave mistakes behind.
                      Moving forward today....
This blog has proved to me something I didn't believe...I do choose unhealthy snacks and meals when I am under great stress. That realization may help to alleviate those decisions next time.
TIP: Freeze purple grapes. Fun little treat. Cool texture. Yummy!

Good....Bad...and Ugly!
The BAD: Picked at Vince's dessert

The UGLY

The GOOD: Tea

Friday: Same ol' breafast: boiled egg, spinach leaves, corn tortilla, green tea, grapes
Snack: Way too many grapes at a meeting.

Snack: almond butter sandwich
Dinner: La Madelein's with Vince. 2 hot teas and some bites of his spice cake.

Saturday: Same ol' breakfast.

Day 5 Pizza and Knitting

My lack of organizing food for the day proved to be my demise!
Woke up before 6am to attend my first knitting class before work! Yep, knitting...that's another blog.

Breakfast: corn tortilla, egg, spinach leaves, green tea.  No time for fruit.  : (
No morning snacks.
Left by 11:30am  to attend something.
Lunch on the run: part of an almond butter sandwich.
Starving!
3:00pm Ran to Central Market and ordered a whole pizza with my husband.
5:30pm La Madeliene's with friend. Not hungry. Ate chocolate dessert cup and a bowl of fruit with hot tea.

Exercise 7:30pm: 3 mile walk at Memorial Park

I really thought writing a blog would make me eat great everyday. Beginning to question if the blog will help me at all! Losing faith in it. Will try again tomorrow.

Still Day 4: Exercises at the Gym: ABS

Okay, I'll admit it. I bought the exercise CDs called "Insanity" from an infamercial! Even worse..I never watch them, but I do other exercises.

Instead of sitting on the couch watching t.v., try doing these during commercials.

Everyone....get out there and move on Thursday.
The mornings and early evenings are perfect for a brisk walk. The hardest part is just getting started!
Once you do you will be so happy you did. Let me know how it goes.

Day 4 BURGER BUST!

Should I be held responsible for my actions if there is food in my face everytime I turn around??
Here is the scoop...
7:30am I arrive at work to find a TACO TRUCK full of gigantic tacos. Teachers already in line to savor the treats. Miraculously I run past the truck (not forgetting to take full advantage of this photo opportunity) of course. I could just imagine that egg and potato taquito and the grease dripping off of it. I wanted one!

9am @ work. A sweet teacher brought her scrumptious egg and potato taco to my meeting! I wanted to steal it from her hands. No kidding. I tried to turn away, but the smell was tantalizing!

High Noon @ work. Even though I had fruit snacks in the morning AND 1/2 of an almond butter sandwich from the day before, I needed something bad. Really bad. I had a headache. I was not happy that I just found out I wasn't able to go kayaking in a week. That did it. I made a run for McDonalds. Just my luck, there is one down the street from my school! I would have taken a pic of the fries and Dr. P, but I finished all that off in the car! The horror.

Day 3 Meatballs and Cookies

My husband went to Costco and got a bit carried away with the sweet potatoes!

ALMOST had a perfect day today! Great breakfast, snacks and lunch, but then my friend Sherrie came over for dinner. She brought pasta with meatballs. I fixed some veggies and grapes. Then she whipped out a big chocolate chip cookie. At least we shared it.

Breakfast: corn tortilla, spinach leaves and boiled egg. Frozen raspberries and green tea.

Packing my lunch in the morning is always stressful. I usually try to have it ready to go the night before. Plain greek yogurt, carrots, apples, grapes, leftovers from last night (salmon, veggies, quinoa), and an almond butter sandwich in case I'm starving after work. Nothing really exciting to report today. Not craving "bad" foods today.

Monday, October 3, 2011

Day 2 Cookies!

The PIE called my name last night!
Wasn't even good..what a waste.
Will I ever have a perfect day???

Needed to get cookies for some teachers today! Craving cookies all the way to the store!
Starving while going to the store isn't good. Passed up the McDonalds! Passed up the Starbucks..whew! Passed up the candy aisle! Passed up the donuts. Bought cookies and promised I wouldn't eat them.
Found myself wanting all kinds of food today!
Breakfast: egg, spinach corn tortilla taco, frozen raspberries, green  tea.
Snack: grapes and apples, water
Lunch: sweet potatoes, green beans, corn, glutten free pasta mixed with little chicken and squash, water
Snack: almond butter sandwich on sprout bread. (more than a snack!)
Hot chocolate (no sugar)
Dinner: salmon, quinoa, greenbeans, corn, grapes, water

COOKIE  okay COOKIES!                                      Dinner

Almost Made It! Maybe tomorrow.
I plan to do some are weights this evening while watching a movie. Will also do squats and lunges. Took clothes to work to go to the gym, but my car drove home instead!
Another day and feeling good.  : ) Better day tomorrow!
Anyone know how to upload pics so they are smaller??

Sunday, October 2, 2011

Nighttime Cravings!

Still day one. I'm craving the pumpkin pie that Vince bought for himself! Every October he buys pumpkin pies from Costco and eats the whole thing in a week. BTW..he never gains a pound! I don't get it.
Okay, I'm hungry and it is 9:30pm at night. Guess I didn't eat enough dinner. I'm going to the fridge. Will I make a good choice or will I eat pumpkin pie? Oh, this could be bad. Real bad.

Day 1 and 364 more to go: Pumped up!

Vince and I jogged this morning at Memorial Park (3 mile park) in gorgeous 69 degree weather! Wooded area, sunshine and a cool breeze. Fought off the tugging feeling to stop at Smoothie King.
Video discussing excellent thigh exercise...

Today's Feast..
Breakfast: green tea (usual), corn tortilla, spinach leaves, boiled egg (usual)
Snack: cocoa with vanilla soymilk, vanilla extract, little salt: our version of no sugar hot chocolate. Acquired taste.
Lunch on the run: salmon patty on sprounted bread (made from real bean sprouts) LOVE IT! Lettuce and okay...yes, a teaspoon of the killer stuff...mayo.
Afternoon get together at friend's place. Took a large veggie plate to eat healthy. No will power. Ate one fajita on a tortilla. Even sipped a bit of sangria. (okay, 3 sips).
Dinner: lentil/veggie soup w/chicken. Mixed veggies on the side.
Snack: frozen peaches with Greek yogurt and agave and walnuts.
Somewhere in there I ate a lollipop from the haircut place. Pooh!

I should have eaten the salad my husband made!
He is getting into soy products. Not for me yet!
Organization is VERY important for me when it comes to sticking to a plan. All 5 workout outfits are ready to roll for the coming week and froze some veggie/pasta dishes. Thanks to my husband for getting us some fruit for the week! Can't wait for tomorrow, but really want a Whataburger right now!Why is this so hard???  http://www.whataburger.com/ Mmmmm...fries!

October 1: Starting Tomorrow

The GOAL: Spend each day doing something that leads to better health.
                                    Exercise EVERYDAY and eat well.
Not sure if this is possible!

Isn't that the infamous saying! "I'll start TOMORROW!" I begin my transformation tomorrow after just eating fajitas, tortillas with butter (my fav!) and drinking Dr Pepper (also my fav!). This will be a huge challenge.

I'll be 41 in a couple weeks. What will 42 look like? Will this year of blogging to good health change my life? This blog will be my daily journey to a better me...a healthier me in mind and body. Come along and join me in this transformation. You can do it too!
